Eastern Visayas is one region I wish to explore more in my next travels. There’s a lot in the area I haven’t been to yet and I know Eastern Visayas got some stunning natural attractions from caves, waterfalls and geological formations. That’s why I was excited to join #SailEast, a familiarization tour of Eastern Visayas, particularly Leyte, Southern Leyte and Samar. We hit the ground running and headed to one of our first stops, Lintaon Peak and its 16,000 Blossoms in Baybay, Leyte.
Hello Baybay
Heading south from Tacloban, about 107km and a two to three hour ride is the city of Baybay. It is the second largest city after Ormoc and serves as the business hub in the western coast of Leyte. This is where our official welcome was held. Riding up to one of the city’s newest attraction at Lintaon Peak. A public park on the cool highlands of the city with facilities for events like a pavilion. We were welcomed by a group of local festival dancers and array of local delicacies to rice cakes and local dried fruit products.
Lintaon Peak
Looking at my altimeter, the viewpoint of Lintaon Peak is around 400 ft (121 meters) above sea level. A windswept hill facing the Camotes Seas and sweeping views of Baybay’s cordilleras sloping down the sea. It’s a soothing sight and I can imagine sunsets would be more fabulous here. A literal breath of fresh air from the city below.

16,000 Blossoms
The local government decided to spruce it up with the Korean-inspired LED lighted roses at the slope of the hill. 16,000 Blossoms as they call it. White roses with red ones spelling the city of Baybay seen afar and from the city. I heard that they are actually more than 16,000 blossoms here. 16 is the magic number as it is the charter date of the city. The park opened June 16, 2017.
