I honestly can’t remember much from last I went here. It was more than a decade ago. I was still working for an American IT company and it was our company outing. Eagle Point Beach and Dive Resort is popular for company outings aside from diving. What I clearly remember was the stunning sunset, playful pawikan and amazing snorkeling just in front of the property. When a chance to go back to the resort came, I thought, why not? It would be interesting to see how things have changed.
Return to Eagle Point
This time around, I had to contend myself on commuting to Mabini Batangas. I remember having been on this popular diving municipality before when I was active in climbing. Gulugod Baboy, now called Mt Pinagbanderahan is popular to newbie climbers. Eagle Point Beach and Dive Resort is far down south at the tip of Calumpang Peninsula in Anilao, Batangas. Our tricycle roared to the hilly terrain overlooking the sea until we reached the road off the main highway leading to the resort.
A shuttle came to fetch us and drive us to the main resort area. From the main road, I think there were more than a kilometer lroad through lush forest and deep sharp curves on the narrow road leading to the reception area. The lobby looks new. Airy and elegant with eclectic choice of furniture. The view of the ocean framed through the wide open windows looks wonderful.
Terrace Hotel
We were assigned to room 101 of the Terrace Hotel. Among the accommodations of the resort, this 40-room Mediterranean-inspired building is the latest build. Each room is well-furnished with each having a private terrace overlooking the Balayan Bay. It’s close to the pool, recreation area, the reef pool and short walk to the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant.
Eagle’s Nest Restaurant
Clearly a new addition to Eagle Point Beach and Dive Resort is the Eagle’s Nest Restaurant. A handsome looking restaurant protruding over the cliffside as if on stilts. Large open windows feels like I’m soaring over the ocean like an eagle. Not to mention the very good food they offer. We can’t help but wax lyrical over their cispy pata, salads, bulalo and one of a kind Calamansi Cake (Check out happyfoodies). Checking in with the storm wasn’t so bad with this surprising food trip at the resort.
Sepoc Island
The sky teased of sunshine the next morning during our stay. We could actually go to Sepoc Island. A private island owned by the resort. We had to drive further up on a different port since the waves were too sinister to dock by the resort pier. The bumpy boat ride was less than an hour. Our outrigger struggled to dock so we compromised to alight near the broken pier and time our jumps.
Sepoc Island is beautiful despite the gloom. Looking at my photos from my first visit, I did have been here but must have been busy with our team building activities then. The quiet and desolateness however made me appreciate this small island. The stretch of beach and picturesque limestones. Then the rain came to spoil the morning. A bright moment came when a cute puppy emerged through the table cloth and played with us. We couldn’t do any other activity so the cute little dog was enough to entertain us.
Downtime Delight
With the weather getting menacing, there was nothing left to do but just enjoy this rare downtimes. Have a cup of good ol’ barako coffee Batangas is known for. Read or finish some writing task. Since I couldn’t snorkel, I contended myself to swimming by the reef pool to check out the baby sharks and groupers. Still not as satisfying being at the open sea though.
There’s nothing we can do about the weather but enjoy the time it has given. Eagle Point Beach and Dive Resort hasn’t weathered through time though. It still attracts quite a lot of divers and corporate events. I’m glad to see the new developments. Though I’m still bummed I wasn’t able to snorkel, freedive or kayak. Perhaps a reason to return.
